What Watchkeep covers
The stewardship arrangement that keeps an archive standing after handover.
Watchkeep is the arrangement under which the studio keeps your archive maintained after it is handed over. It runs annually.
The reason it exists is simple. An archive that nobody maintains is a link that works for four years and then does not. Everything below is what standing watch actually consists of, so the arrangement has a floor you can hold it to rather than a promise you have to take on faith.
Included years
Every commission includes Watchkeep for a period scaled to its scope — from one year at the smallest scope to five at the largest. After the included period it renews annually.
What is covered without charge
Inspection. Every archive under Watchkeep is inspected on a fixed cycle: links, mobile rendering, load speed, and guest wall function. The inspection is logged with its date and findings. You do not see the inspection — you see its consequences.
Repair. Anything the inspection finds is fixed. You are told after, not asked before.
Re-fitting. Archives are periodically brought up to current standards — performance, typography, mobile behaviour. Craft only.
Nothing about the content or meaning of your archive is ever changed without your knowledge. Re-fitting covers how it is built, never what it says. Every modification is logged and disclosed.
Backup. An annual copy of the entire archive — content, media and source — is held independently of the platform it runs on. Your archive exists in more than one place, and one of them is not the internet.
Guest wall watch. Incoming wall entries are reviewed before they surface, so nothing painful reaches a family unannounced.
Your record. A log on your account of every change ever made to the archive. Twenty years from now that log is itself a family document.
What is not covered
New material. Adding a chapter, a section, or a substantial body of new content is a separate commission — see adding to the archive. Corrections, small factual fixes and anything broken are not new material and are covered.
The annual note
Renewal does not arrive as an invoice. It arrives as an account of the year: what the archive did, what was inspected and repaired, what material you mentioned that is still waiting to be written, and one recommendation for the year ahead. The coming year's fee is stated plainly at the end.
If you stop
You can end Watchkeep at any time. The archive does not vanish — see export for what you are entitled to and how to get it. What ends is the inspection, the repair, the backup and the watch.
